Description

Based on actual events.

Do people realize what they're saying when they open their mouths?  I don't refer to my work as manga, just comics, but sometimes people will call it manga, and I won't stop them.  It is, after all, in the manga style.  But some people (not always kids) just need to make clear how impossible it is for me to create manga because I'm not Asian.  Seriously, do really want to bring race into the argument?  Any argument?

I do like what svetlania said in Dramacon,  "Is pizza not a pizza unless it's made by an Italian in Italy?"  That wasn't a direct quote, but pretty darn close.

If it were me, I would have infodumped on the kid, explaining to him in painful detail about how manga translates to "silly drawings" and the comic is short for comedic or comedy. And if the comic in question being sold has little to no comedy, I would explain that neither term would technically be applicable. The proper terms, as I explain to the kid, would either be graphic novel or illustrated picture book. I would then tell the kid the translations of these terms into Japanese, Korean, Chinese, French, Spanish, Esperanto, and even explain in detail the roots for the formation of such words from the ancient forms of Chinese, Latin, and Greek and would then detail the evolution of the root words into their current forms in each language as well as explain the changes of pronunciation. And since Esperanto was created to be an international auxiliary language, I would then explain the history of Esperanto and how words are made in that language. I would then explain the flaws of the language and then explain the details of various potential languages for international communication such as Ido, Novial, Interlingua, Lingwe de Planeta, Loglan, Lojban, Lingua Franca Nova, Occidental, and Klingon. I could then explain the history of the English language and its evolution, but I doubt the brat would be focused in the real world anymore.
